Amritsar: Sikh outfits Dal Khalsa and Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) on Friday said they could let go the matter of exoneration of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh if he came to the Akal Takht and sought apology when he visited the Golden Temple.
“Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s offer to visit the Golden Temple holds no water unless he comes to the Akal Takht and tenders an apology in clear words for his blasphemous act and pledges not to repeat it,” the Dal Khalsa and Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) said here.
Reacting to Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s statement that he was willing to visit the Golden Temple for peace, they said anyone could visit the Golden Temple to pay obeisance irrespective of religion or caste.
They alleged that the constitution of the committee by jathedars to look into the exoneration of the dera head was a diversionary tactic to defuse anger and confuse Sikhs.
Dal Khalsa chief HS Dhami and his Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) counterpart Kulbeer Singh Barapind said, “What’s the utility of constituting the committee after issuing a clean chit to the dera head for his sacrilegious act? What relevance does the committee hold when a large section of Sikhs have already rejected the decision?”
Taking a dig at the Akali leadership for offering “hollow and vague” reasoning in pardoning the dera head, they said, “It’s being argued that for the sake of peace and harmony in the region, it was necessary to end the animosity between Sikhs and the Sirsa dera.”
