The move to stop the distribution of the science kits to about 32 government high schools and senior secondary schools in the district has come in the wake of alleged involvement of education minister Sikander Singh Maluka in a scandal of purchasing library books from one particular firm. Since then the purchase of the kits, too, has come under scanner.

In Faridkot district, the science kits were supposed to be distributed at a function in the presence of the local MP and MLA, but following the controversy over the procurement of books, instructions stopping the district authorities from distributing the science kits have come, sources said.

"We have got instructions from the DPI office against the distribution of the kits to schools till further orders. So, we have dropped the idea of handing over these kits to schools. We will wait for the next orders from the high-ups," said a senior officer in the district education department on the condition of anonymity.
