It’s pertinent to mention here that even a month ago, medical and non-medical staff of the hospital had also observed strike to demand more policemen at the hospital following an incident of hooliganism in the hospital.

On Thursday again, some visitors to the hospital manhandled Dr Gurmel Singh on duty in the emergency ward at around 3 pm.

The accused Parveen Kumar has been booked under Sections 353, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The doctors, para medical staff and class four employees, excluding the emergency staff, went on strike on Friday leaving a number of patients in teh lurch.

A 70-year-old patient Dhanna Singh said, "I had reached here from my village Bhokhda , but it was only during noon that I came to know that doctors had gone on strike."
