Doraha gas leak: Health minister promises free treatment to victims

Punjab health minister Surjit Kumar Jyani on Monday took a tour of various city hospitals to inquire about the well-being of Doraha gas leak victims. Interacting with victims and their family members, the minister promised them free treatment. The government has announced Rs one lakh each as compensation to family members of five people who lost their lives in the accident

Punjab health minister Surjit Kumar Jyani on Monday took a tour of various city hospitals to inquire about the well-being of Doraha gas leak victims.

Interacting with victims and their family members, the minister promised them free treatment. The government has announced Rs one lakh each as compensation to family members of five people who lost their lives in the accident.

The hospitals visited by Jyani included Apollo hospital, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and the civil hospital.

Of the seven new trauma centers coming up in various districts of the state, one would be set up at Ludhiana, said the minister.

One the proposed to install an air-conditioning system in government hospitals, Jyani replied that at least one air-conditioner will be installed in OPDs in government hospitals across the state. The wall of the civil hospital will be repaired soon, he said.

During his visit to the civil hospital, the minister said there weren't adequate chair and fans for patients. He also told officials to place dustbins outside different wards.

Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Gill said the driver of the tanker has been identified as Jitendra Singh of Ferozabad district in Uttar Pradesh.


85 victims undergoing treatment

As per records, 85 gas leak victims were undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Ludhiana. While fice people have died in the deadly leak, the condition of eight is said to be critical

SSP Khanna Gurpreet Gill said the tanker driver, who fled the scene after the leak, has been identified as Jitendra Singh of Ferozabad district in Uttar Pradesh
