With a view to preparing Class 12 students studying at government schools for competitive tests once their board examinations are over, the Punjab education department has decided to provide free crash courses for the Punjab Pre-medical Entrance Test (PMET) and the Common Entrance Test (CET).
The department will start the free crash course from March 25 to Class-12 students for preparing them for competitive examinations related to engineering and medical streams.
Education minister Daljit Singh Cheema has asked all the district education officers and district science supervisors to conduct free crash course for students who are not able to get coaching from private institutions.
The DEOs have been asked to prepare a list of students who are interested for taking coaching which will be given during school hours.
Since Class-12 examination under the Punjab School Education Board in medical and non-medical streams concluded on Friday, the district education officers have been asked to conduct free classes till the time PMET (May 17) and CET are held the same month.
“Government schools students are not able to attend coaching classes for lack of resources. Such courses will help them get better ranks in competitive examinations. This will also help them get admissions in better institutions for further higher studies,” district science supervisor Baljinder Singh said.
“As many as 156 students have been enrolled for coaching classes in the district. The classes will be taken by lecturers during school hours from 10am to 2pm from March 26 for 40 days,” Singh said.
He said teachers are motivating students to attend these courses.
