Gurdeep Kaur, 82, of Sector 18D, could never have foreseen her car going up in flames in the wee hours of Friday as she rose to go out for yoga like every other day.
However, minutes before leaving the house, she and her husband heard a loud blast. They rushed out to find their white Wagon R completely burnt, windscreen and windows smashed.
Without wasting time, her 88-year-old husband Jaswant Singh called the fire brigade that arrived and doused the fire. Police reached the spot by 5.20am.
Jaswant said, “Before we could make sense of what was happening, the damage was done. Our neighbour Sanjeet Brar rushed to tell us that the CCTV cameras in their house captured three people heading to our car.” All of this happened within half-an-hour.
The couple resides with their two married sons and grandchildren in the house. Three other servants were also in the house when the incident happened. The elder son Raminderjit Singh said, “When we saw the CCTV footage, we realised that it was a prank gone wrong.”

{{/usCountry}}Soon after that there’s a blast, which makes the pranksters scurry away in the same direction from which they came.
Harmeet Brar, another family member who lives in the neighbouring house, said, “The incident has left us shocked and scared. How can someone have the guts to do something like this in daylight?”
The couple’s younger son, Harinderjit Singh, said, “It is important to have CCTV cameras. We are going to get one installed now.”
Meanwhile, in another house in the same colony, a car’s windows were found smashed after people threw stones at it.
