‘Explore option of setting up ultra-supercritical power plant at Rupnagar’

Acting on the proposal of power engineers, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has directed the CMD of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited to explore the option to set up ultra-supercritical power plant at Rupnagar to bring down the cost of generation.

The CM directed principal secretary SK Sandhu to resolve pay scale issue of assistant engineers within a week.”

The power engineers are demanding a mega power project to overcome the monopoly of private players in the state. The proposed power plant at Mukerian is still on papers.

At the meeting, it was also agreed to include nominees of engineers and employees in trusts of government provident fund and terminal benefits fund and the government would take up the matter with the Punjab State Electricity Regularitory Commission (PSERC) for funding the pension trust.
