Farmer body accuses power board of misleading CM, demands 8-hour supply

Accusing the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) management of misleading chief minister Parkash Singh Badal regarding electricity supply to farmers during paddy season, the Consortium of Indian Farmers Associations (CIFA) has urged the CM to seek reports from deputy commissioners.

"Farmers are being provided power for less than five hours against the promised eight hours. However, PSPCL is presenting fictitious figures to the CM, claiming to have provided eight-hour regular supply," alleged CIFA president Satnam Singh Behru.

He said the farmers had held several meetings with the PSPCL management under the banner of CIFA. "Power supply is erratic, forcing farmers to use diesel generators to run tubewells. Farmers at several places have started organising protests against PSPCL and the government," he added.

Asking the CM not to believe the reports of the PSPCL management, Behru also demanded provision of eight-hour supply, as promised.
