The principal of a private school at Fatehabad in Haryana, who was thrashed by students and parents after he was allegedly caught sexually assaulting a girl, has been remanded in judicial custody for a fortnight.
Raj Kumar Kaswan, who is in his late thirties, was beaten before being dragged by people on Friday to Bhuna police station, where he was handed over to officials.
On Sunday, a court in Fatehabad sent the principal to judicial remand for 14 days in connection with the sexual harassment case filed against him.
"The court here yesterday ordered the accused principal's judicial custody for 14 days and now he was sent to Hisar jail. Meanwhile, we are carrying on with our investigations," investigating officer Pushpa Devi said.
A video showing Kaswan getting slapped and beaten by students and parents has gone viral.
Police are investigating allegations by students that Kaswan sexually harassed several girls studying in the school over several months.
"He was brought to our police station in Bhuna, where people accompanying him alleged that he was trying to rape a girl. We will thoroughly investigate the matter before divulging the details," said Vijay Singh, district superintendent of police.
According to reports, the principal asked the victim to come to his office on Friday. He was then caught red-handed trying to allegedly molest the girl, who had already told her parents about the advances the principal had been making.
The girl's family hid themselves near the principal's room and stormed inside when he allegedly started molesting the girl.
The parents lodged a formal complaint against the principal, who was booked under sections 376 (rape) and 511 of the Indian Penal code and several provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
