The special investigation team (SIT) probing the drug haul case in Fazilka may soon summon Congress leader and former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

After getting testimony of Khaira’s PSO Joga Singh regarding the former’s conversation with alleged drug kingpin Gurdev Singh, a close aide of Khaira and former Dhilwan market committee chairman, the SIT is considering to summon the Congres leader, revealed officials.

The SIT on Monday questioned head constable Joga Singh to find out the link between his gang and other drug smugglers in the area. It is also checking details of all the people involved in drug cases in the border belt to find out their possible links with the gang, said sources. During scrutiny of call details, it has been learnt that Gurdev contacted Khaira from his mobile phone 26 times between April 4 to October 10 last year, sources added.

While on the run, Gurdev used the mobile of his driver Manjit Singh to contact Khaira on the cell phone of Joga Singh and also talked to Gurdev’s sister Charanjit Kaur several times, it was learnt. After coming to know about Gurdev being under surveillance, Khaira contacted several police officials, sources said.
