Superintendent of police Harjeet Singh Pannu said, "We had received a tip off that some miscreants were involved in lifting vehicles from public places. Special teams were constituted to nab the criminals," he said.

Police said those arrested had been identified as Vikas Kumar Bajaj, a resident of Ludharpur under Udhampur district in Uttaranchal; Narinder Kumar Happy and Raj Kumar Raju, both of Ammiwala village under Dharamkot sub-division of Moga and Subhash Kumar of Dharamkot.

SP Pannu said other gang members, namely, Mahinderpal Singh of Maror, Sukhdev Singh of Panjgraian Kalan and Gulshan Kumar of Guru Harsahai, all from Ferozepur district, and Kuldeep Singh of Moga, were still at large.

"The gang members had stolen vehicles from Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and had prepared their fake documents. They later sold these vehicles in various areas of Punjab. During preliminary investigation, police found that the gang members had sold stolen four wheelers worth Rs 40 lakh in Punjab," said Pannu.
