Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Centre has decided to undertake a special clean-up initiative focussed on 100 iconic heritage, spiritual, and cultural places in the country.

The list was under discussion and would be finalised soon, the Union drinking water and sanitation ministry claimed in a statement issued on Friday here, adding: “The initiative undertaken under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be coordinated by the ministry in association with the ministries of urban development, culture, and tourism, besides the state governments concerned.

The iconic places selected for intensive clean-up under Phase 1 of this initiative are the Golden Temple, Amritsar (Punjab); Vaishno Devi shrine (Jammu and Kashmir); Taj Mahal (Uttar Pradesh); Tirupati Temple (Andhra Pradesh); Ajmer Sharif Dargah (Rajasthan); Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Maharashtra); Manikarnika Ghat (Varanasi); Meenakshi Temple (Tamil Nadu); Kamakhya Temple (Assam); and Jagannath Puri (Odisha).
