Local bodies and medical education minister Bhagat Chunni Lal on Sunday said the state government would make a uniform policy for the entire state to implement property tax.

The minister, who was in Patiala on his personal visit to the house of newly-elevated state secretary of the BJP Gurtej Dhillon, rubbished the claims that the rate of property tax was higher in Patiala as compared to other cities.

“This is the propaganda of the Congress. Believe me, those who are crying hoarse over the issue, are actually not the tax-payers but the Congress workers,” said the minister.

He, however, admitted that some issues with regard to the implementation of the property tax needs to be resolved and the government has decided to make a uniform policy for the state.

He also admitted that implementation of the tax would go against the BJP, as following among the traders was the strength of the party.

“Still, we are trying our best to put less burden on the common man and they will have to understand that this tax is only for their betterment. The money collected through property tax will be spent on the development of their city,” he said.

“Specialist doctors prefer private medical colleges because they are paying them well. Government salary is fixed no matter how skilled a doctor is,” he said.
