The police have summoned Dr Rajesh Aggarwal, the owner of National Kidney Hospital, to join the investigation into the kidney racket, which was busted on July 31.

Five people have been arrested and 10 others, all beneficiaries or donors, have been booked in the case, which involved giving away kidneys to unrelated beneficiaries for monetary considerations.

On Monday, a scanning test conducted on two accused — Sabur and Junaid Ahmed Khan, the kingpin — confirmed that their bodies each had a kidney missing.

An investigation officer said the name of a Ludhiana-based hospital had also come up during probe. He said it was at the hospital that one of arrested accused, Sabur, had undergone a transplant.

The officer said a team will be sent to the hospital to seize surgery records and added that three teams have already moved to Delhi, Lucknow and Dharamshala. ADCP Amrik Singh Powar told the Hindustan Times that Dr Aggarwal has been asked to appear before the police on Wednesday.

Members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), including deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Rajinder Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) (headquarters) Alka Meena, ADCP (investigation) J Elanchezhian, and ADCPII Amrik Singh Powar will quiz Aggarwal about his alleged role in this racket.
