With a score of 96.15%, Kiranpal Kaur of Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School at Chananke has done the district proud by bagging the third position in the state in the Class 10 results declared by Punjab School Education Board on Monday.
Daughter of a Punjab Police head constable Harbhej Singh and a housewife mother, Kaur is a resident of Saidpur village in the district. She said she wished to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a doctor.
"I had worked very hard and I am very happy that my efforts paid off," she said.
"After attending school from 8am to 3pm, I used to return home.
I resumed self-study again from 4pm onwards daily till I was satisfied with my preparations. Even before the exams, I used to keep revising the sylabus till I was satisfied," Kaur remarked.
Meanwhile, celebrations marked the day at Kiranpal's school, where she was felicitated by school authorities in the presence of her proud parents.
"In our society, people still harbour this mindset that girls are a burden on their parents. But I am very proud of my daughter. She has made us famous in the entire district," a visibly emotional Harbhej Singh said as tears welled up in his eyes.
"I have only studied till Class 10, and was not able to pursue higher education. I am very proud of my daughter's achievement. We will always encourage her to pursue higher studies," said Paramjit Kaur, the youngster's proud mother.

{{/usCountry}}Principal Kuldeep Singh said that their school had bagged six of the top 10 positions in the Class 10 exams. "We conducted extra classes in English, Mathematics and Science for our students so that they could get good scores," he said.
