Ludhiana-based minor girl gangraped in city, two arrested

A 16-year-old Ludhiana- based girl was raped by two persons, on Sunday late night in Mithu Basti area of the city. The accused were identified as 26 years old Jarnail Singh, auto rickshaw driver and 70- year-old Harnam Singh. Both of them have been immediately arrested after a case was registered against them under Sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), 366 A (procuration of minor girl) of the Indian Penal Code at Basti Bawa Khel police station.

A 16-year-old Ludhiana- based girl was raped by two persons, on Sunday late night in Mithu Basti area of the city.


The accused were identified as 26 years old Jarnail Singh, auto rickshaw driver and 70- year-old Harnam Singh. Both of them have been immediately arrested after a case was registered against them under Sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), 366 A (procuration of minor girl) of the Indian Penal Code at Basti Bawa Khel police station.

The girl, who had come to city to meet her aunt, after fighting with her mother in Ludhiana on some issue, reached at bus stand and took auto to reach at her aunt's house.

At first, she reached at Kapurthala Chowk and took another auto rickshaw to reach, Karishna Nagar where her aunt lives.

When the girl stepped down from the second auto near canal bridge, Basti Bawa Khel and inquired from Jarnail and Harnam about Krishna Nagar, the duo asked her to accompany them in his auto and they would leave her at her destination.

But the auto rickshaw driver Jarnail and his accomplice Harnam took the girl to an unknown place in Mithu Basti and raped her and left her at the spot.

ACP (west) Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu said, "As soon as, we received information on Sunday late night, a team was rushed to Ludhiana and recorded the statement of the victim".

The accused were arrested on Monday evening and will be produced in a local court on Tuesday, said the ACP.
