MC employees to continue strike as Joshi verbally assures change in policies

Local bodies minister Anil Joshi, who was in Kapurthala for Independence Day, has assured the employees of the Municipal Council of Kapurthala (MCK) that he will fulfill their genuine demands after the by-polls on August 21.

MCK employees, who were on an indefinite strike since the last 13 days in support of their various demands, met the minister to convey their grievances.

President of Municipal Employees Union, Kapurthala, Bunty Bhatti said, "If authorities have decided to change the policies, why has the minister failed to provide us with a written assurance?"

All the employees of the MCK, including clerks, superintendent, safai karamcharis and sewerage workers among others have stopped work which has held up work in the MCK office as well as worsened the sanitary conditions in the city.

In a meeting with the chief secretary on August 11, Gupta had assured fulfilling six demands of MC employees while their appeal for abolishment of the solid waste management project and converting departments to sewerage board were not accepted by him.
