The portal was opened for public on Sunday night and received overwhelming response on Day 1 with over 50 people making the payment online.

Talking to HT, commissioner MS Chattwal said, “The facility has been provided to the public at no extra cost. Our team is maintaining the whole process after getting the clearance from the audit officials of HDBC bank, who are our nodal partner for property tax collection.”

“Probably, we are the first one in the state to give online payment option to the residents and that too without charging extra," Chattwal said.

"Presently 20 camps are operating at different locations. Residents can also pay online using debit card or credit card of any bank and take print out of the receipt," he said.

"The application form and the model for calculation of property tax was already there on our portal. The online facility will not only reduce the rush at collection centers but also help check corruption," he said.
