Mercury up by 5 notches in Chandigarh, light rain likely in coming days

According to the meteorological department, the system that had developed over Haryana is weakening now.

Pleasant weather conditions continued in the tricity as light showers were witnessed throughout the day on Tuesday.

The Indian Meteorological Department’s observatory in Sector 39 recorded 12.1mm of rain on Tuesday morning while in the evening, it recorded 2.3 mm of rain. At the airport, 1.8mm of rain was recorded in the morning. The total rain recorded (14.4 mm) fell in the light to moderate category (2.5 mm to 35.5 mm).

According to the meteorological department, the system that had developed over Haryana is weakening now.

“Peak effects were felt till Monday. It is expected that this system will bring rain in Chandigarh by Wednesday or Thursday, but it will be a low-intensity one,” officials said.

However, the temperature saw a slight rise as compared to Monday.

The maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 32 degrees, which is five degrees more than Monday’s maximum of 27 degrees, and one degree below normal.

The minimum temperature saw a more gradual fall, coming down to 24.6 degrees on Tuesday, slightly below Monday’s minimum of 25.2 degrees, two degrees above normal.

Humidity levels stayed between 96% and 70%

In what may come as further relief to residents, the meteorological department has predicted that Tuesday’s conditions will prevail over the next three days.
