The MC has filed the cases in January under the Public Premises Act in the court of additional collector-cum-deputy director local government to get encroachment removed from the NC land. SAD councillor and vice-president Vijay Kumar Polpli introduced the resolution, which states that the order passed by the MC president under Section 35 of the Punjab Municipal Act to give approval for filing cases should be cancelled as it is not covered under the said Section.

President GS Dhiman, who has previously passed the order, seconded this resolution also. A total of seven members from the ruling party and opposition strongly opposed the resolution. SAD councilor Keshav Dheer, who is facing encroachment charges was present in the meeting as was Nakodar MLA GS Wadala.

Former nagar council president Joginder Singh Bhamra had lodged a complaint of encroachment against councillor Dheer and the revenue department had confirmed encroachment by the councillor.
