In a 'misstatement' of facts, the Nawanshar police have told the State NRI commission that it has no information about the main accused in the kidnapping of the grandson of an NRI. However, members of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier told HT that the accused had managed to flee the country.
The inane reply to the commission was submitted on March 26 (a copy is with HT), while HT was informed about the fleeing of the accused on March 22.
The case pertained to the reported abduction of 28-year-old Gurdeep Singh of Phambra village and the accused was a woman named Sona.
There are other discrepancies in the report. The police have shown Hardeep Kumar as Rahon police station SHO in its reply to the commission, however, Kumar is the in-charge of CIA staff, Nawanshahr.
Even ignoring the discrepancies, the investigation in the case is going nowhere. Speaking with HT, Hardeep Kumar said, "I have called Niranjan Singh, the father of accused, for inquiry into the case twice. However, he had failed to turn up."
Another SIT member, SHO Rahon police station, Surinder Chand, said, "The case is being investigated by the CIA staff and only they can comment on the investigation."

{{/usCountry}}He said that the accused Sona's father had told them that his daughter had fled abroad.
SP (D) Satpal Singh Bhangu said: "We will hold a meeting very soon to discuss ways on how to get back Sona from abroad."
He claimed to have no information on the whereabouts of the victim Gurdeep, but said that investigations into the incident were going on seriously.
Speaking with HT, SSP Dhanpreet Kaur said, "We have got some important information in the case and investigations are on. We are trying our best."
A case was registered against Sona, a resident of Kulam road in Nawanshahr, under Section 365 (kidnapping) on the complaint of Swarn Kaur at Rahon police station on November 29, 2012.
