As many as 44 prisoners, including two women, who jumped parole from Ludhiana jails between 2001 and 2016 are still untraceable with the police failing to make any headway.
A right to information (RTI) application has revealed that the police are shying to take stern action against the culprits who have absconded after jumping parole.
Two women convicts in drug peddling case jumped parole eight years ago and are still absconding with the jail officials failing to nab them.
The information procured by RTI activist Ravi Kumar says that from 2001 to 2016, as many as two out of the 1,421 women who availed parole failed to report back to jail here.
As per the RTI reply, Amarjit Kaur of Rajowana village of Moga, who was a convict in a drug peddling case, has absconded since 2008. She was arrested by Hisar police in 1997 in a case of drug peddling. Similarly, Gholo of Ram Nagar village of Sangrur, did not return from parole while she had absconded in 2008 after she jumped parole. She was arrested in 1997 by Sirsa police for drug peddling.

{{/usCountry}}Damanjit Kaur, superintendent of Women Jail, said that the department has confiscated the guarantees provided by the women at the time they were released on parole. The department has written to police for their arrest.
