After HT highlighted on Wednesday that the Punjab Agricultural University's (PAU) agricultural journalism department seems to have forgotten its aim of helping out the agricultural sector, PAU vice-chancellor (V-C) Baldev Singh Dhillon said he would soon conduct a meeting with the aforesaid department's staff to ensure their efficiency being put to use to benefit the varsity as well as the farming community.

Dhillon said there were many surprising elements in the HT news report under headline 'No concrete contribution by PAU agricultural journalism department, say staff members'.

“But whenever I met the professors from the 'department of agricultural journalism, languages and culture', I have always been told that they are overburdened with a lot of teaching work. That's why the department has not been given much additional work. However, I want to make it clear that V-C alone cannot bring all the change and improvements as it requires team work. The department head too is the most crucial person and then there is a dean who also have a role to play,” said Dhillon, adding “as of now, I do not have any quick fix for the concerns raised about this department but I shall surely hold a meeting soon with the staff concerned to mull how their talent or knowledge can further help the PAU.”

The PAU V-C said the suggestions given by the professors of other departments in accordance with the HT report should be considered which includes complete involvement of journalism professors in helping other departments to prepare agricultural literature, sharing work load with CCIL, especially in preparing monthly magazine, brochure, communication with farmers, journalism students too helping in the same way as it can give them practical training and lot more.
