After the presentation of the challan against the accused, the court has reportedly granted bail to Gurbinder Kaur, who is the member of SGPC from here and Ramandeep Singh, president of the truck union, Faridkot, who are allegedly partners of a rice mill here.

The enforcement wing of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) had conducted a raid at Farid cotton ginning factory here on May 10, 2010 and detected a power theft worth Rs 22.74 lakh. Though the PSPCL authorities had allegedly issued notice to the party to pay the fine to the tune of Rs 22.74 lakh, but it failed to do so and PSPCL got a criminal case registered against the two later on.

The sources alleged that, under political pressure, the police had failed to present the challan against the accused in the court so the legal proceedings could not move ahead for nearly four years.

The court of the additional district and sessions judge Faridkot reportedly directed the power theft accused to submit Rs 35,000 each and granted them a bail till the pendency of the case.
