Punjab and Harayana high court justice SK Mittal on Saturday said that legal- aid clinics would be set up at different villages to give village people the advice and legal help.
Mittal along with speaker of the legislative assembly Charanjit Singh Attwal was in Payal tehsil to inaugurate a court and a legal-aid clinic.
Mittal said, “The constitution of our country provides weaker sections of the society the benefit to get the free legal aid. It is their fundamental right to get the speedy justice.”
Mittal also appealed to people of the village to solve the village-level small disputes at the Panchayat level as 'it was a wastage of time and money' if they filed visited courts even for minor issues.
“Over 5.5 lakh cases, filed every year at Punjab and Haryana high court, are only from Punjab and same number of cases is filed from Haryana,” said Mittal, adding that over 6 lakh cases were disposed of every year. “The pending cases of 5-10 years would be disposed of by March 31 this year,” he added.
Attwal demanded that a court complex should also be established at Payal to which, Mittal said he would consult authorities about the demand.
