Roughly 5 months after the infamous Varnika Kundu stalking incident, police arrested three people for stalking and trying to kidnap a woman in Sector 36. What makes the crime even more sinister is the fact that one of the accused — Jaskaran Singh — is a Punjab Police constable posted in Mohali.
Jaskaran along with Karambir of Fazilka and Gurdas of Bathinda — both students of a college in Sector 32 — followed the woman in a Toyota Innova when she was on her way home in a car around 1am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
Police said the trio were in an inebriated condition and tried to intercept the woman’s vehicle and even tried to open her car forcibly. The victim, who works with a private firm in Sector 35, then called the police. When the accused saw her on phone, they tried to flee, but were intercepted by police and arrested.

{{/usCountry}}The accused were booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 354D (stalking) and 365 (kidnapping) read with 511 (attempt to commit crime) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced in court on Monday, which sent to one-day police remand.
Police will now recreate the scene and also inquire into the trio’s past record.
