The Punjab government has told the Punjab and Haryana high court that it would complete the process to appoint 484 teachers in the state’s private aided colleges by March 31.
In an affidavit filed before the court recently, director, public instruction (DPI, colleges), TK Goyal stated that that after the appointments to these posts, the government would start the process to appoint 484 more teachers. As per an undertaking given by the state in the court in October 2014, it (government) has to appoint 1,925 teachers in a phased manner in three years in these private aided colleges.
The response came on a petition wherein it was claimed that in October 2014, the court had disposed of a plea seeking filling of vacant posts in these colleges after the state government came out with the undertaking, but till March 2015, it had filled only 109 posts, and that too on contract basis.
The government further told the court that regarding the terms and conditions of appointment of these teachers, it was the state’s prerogative to fix the same. The appointments being made on contract basis would be regularised in due course, the government claimed before the court.

{{/usCountry}}The court was further informed that the government had initiated the process to recruit non-teaching staff in these colleges and a notification was issued in this regard on January 29. The matter would come up for further hearing on February 24.
