Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday inaugurated a sewerage treatment plant, built at a cost of Rs 27 crore, here. He also inaugurated a `4.45 crore tehsil administrative complex at Baghapurana.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the sewerage treatment plant, Sukhbir said Punjab would be made the most preferred destination for investors in the coming two years, while referring to the recent World Bank study declaring Punjab the third most favoured state for investment.
"Development projects worth Rs 1,400 crore would be launched in the state in the coming four months. All major towns would be connected with 4 and 6-lane expressways in the coming three years," he said. He said that to ensure overall development in the rural areas of the state, `10,000 crore would be spent on various projects in two years. "The government has widened the ambit of Atta-Dal scheme by doubling the number of beneficiaries from 15 lakh to 30 lakh," he said.
Reiterating the government's resolve to provide quality education to the students, especially in rural areas, Sukhbir said that the government had launched Dr Hargobind Khurana scholarship scheme under which scholarship amounting to `30,000 per annum would given to promising students in Classes 11 and 12. "Every student who scores 80% or above in the senior secondary level would receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 2,500," he said.

{{/usCountry}}The deputy CM announced to give Samalsar the status of a sub-tehsil and announced a grant of `15 crore to Baghapurana municipal council for upgrading the sewerage system.
"The state government has formulated an extensive plan to reinforce the overall development of the urban areas under which basic amenities would be upgraded," he said.
Prominent among those who were present the occasion included former agriculture minister Tota Singh, member of Parliament Paramjit Kaur Gulshan, former municipal council president Barjinder Singh Brar and local MLA Joginder Pal Jain.
