According to experts, carpeting work should not be carried out during rain, as water destroys the new layer.

But, still carpeting work on a road in Model Town was seen being done during rain on Monday.

RTI activist Arvind Sharma said, “Th carpeting of road is being done during rain, despite knowing that rain will damage it. This reflects carelessness on the part of municipal corporation (MC) officials concerned.”

Sharma claimed that no official concerned of the MC was present when the construction was going on in Model Town.

“I have also sent the pictures to zonal commissioner PS Ghuman and other officials concerned, but they are yet to take the matter seriously,” he claimed.

Crores of rupees are spent on carpeting of roads, but during rains the top-most layer gets washed off, leading to potholes and mishaps.

When contacted, MC superintending engineer Dharam Singh expressed ignorance about the carpeting of any road during rain. He said he would look into the matter. He said, “During rain, and if water had stagnated, carpeting should be avoided, as it destroyed the new layer.”
