Robbers break in an old couple's house, murder woman

A 68-year-old woman was murdered and her husband was injured, when a group of four unidentified men allegedly barged into their house and fled away with Rs 50,000 cash and some gold ornaments, here on Saturday night.

A 68-year-old woman was murdered and her husband was injured, when a group of four unidentified men allegedly barged into their house and fled away with Rs 50,000 cash and some gold ornaments, here on Saturday night.

Sources said that on Saturday night around 2 am, four masked broke into the house of Gurbachan Singh (72), a resident of Chittoregarh village, under Ghiana-ke-Banger police station and tried to break open the locks of the almirah.

Alarmed by the noise, Gurbachan Singh, who and his wife Jasbir Kaur (68) tried to raise a cry for help, but the robbers reportedly overpowere them and asked them to surrender cash and other valuables.

The miscreants allegedly started assaulting Gurbachan Singh, when he refused to accept their demands. Jasbir Kaur again tried to shout and raise an alarm, but the robbers stuffed a piece of cloth into her mouth and locked the couple into another room. The robbers fled away with Rs 50,000, foru gold rings and four gold bangles.

Unable to breath, Jasbir Kaur died of suffocation while her husband was also found unconscious.

Gurbachan Singh said that he had withdrawn the cash to buy a piece of land in the village. He was still in shock and was unable to give the details of miscreants.
The police rushed to the spot and have registered a complaint under sections 458 (house-breaking), 460 (house-breaking by more than one person), 302 (murder), 34 (crime with common intention) of the IPC against unidentified persons and started investigations.
