Rural development and panchayat deputy director among 8 booked for cheating

The Batala police have booked eight persons, including rural development and panchayts deputy director Jaspal Singh, a tehsildar and a patwari, for making an attempt to transfer a piece of government land in Pathankot with the connivance of land mafia.

The Batala police have booked eight persons, including rural development and panchayts deputy director Jaspal Singh, a tehsildar and a patwari, for making an attempt to transfer a piece of government land in Pathankot with the connivance of land mafia.

According to a first information report lodged at local civil line police station, Sucha Singh, a resident of Tellianwal village, had sold a piece of land, measuring 4 kanal and 1 marla, to a Britain-based NRI Baljinder Singh, who hails from Sar na town in Pathankot district.

Baljinder later retur ned to Britain but Sucha Singh, in connivance with land mafia and government officials, tried to get a piece of land, measuring 15 kanal and 14 marla and owned by the Community Development and Training Centre (CDTC), at Pathankot transferred in lieu of the land which he had already sold to Baljinder.

However, the Pathankot deputy commissioner refused to allow the transfer of the Community Development and Training Centre .

The accused, who have been booked under sections 420 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), are still absconding.
