Amid the nationwide talks of making Sanskrit a mandatory subject, Himachal Pradesh has decided to do so in all government schools.
Chief minister Virbhadra Singh while presiding over the meeting of Himachal Sanskrit Academy here on Monday said “Pujaris” (priests) of temples would be trained as per Vedic thoughts and literature.
He directed the academy to complete formalities to take over Tungesh Sanskrit College at Cheog soon so that it could be administered in a better way. The CM urged the academy members to continue with their activities and make efforts to promote Sanskrit. “There will not be any dearth of funds to the academy from the government to run its affairs,” he said.
He said the perfect form of the Vedic Sanskrit language existed thousands of years before the infancy of earliest prime languages like Greek, Hebrew and Latin.
On the occasion, Virbhadra decided to upkeep the status of the constitution of the academy as earlier, and decided to limit the term of the academy secretary to five years and age to 65.
The CM directed to fill the post of assistant librarian and senior assistant (accounts) within a week. He also directed to transfer the ownership of “Divya Jyoti” monthly magazine to the academy and approved publication of research journal (bi-annual) of the academy jointly with Himachal Pradesh University. Chief Minister also announced to enhance the wages of those taking part in seminars and workshops from Rs 400 to Rs 500 and from Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 for writing research journals.
