AMRITSAR: Shaken by the incident wherein a nine-year old was raped in Jharkhand, the students of an Amritsar-based school have come forward with financial assistance for the family.
Notably, Hindustan Times had made an appeal to the readers for financial assistance to the family of the rape victim in Jharkhand. This appeal was made to the readers in an article published on August 29, which revealed a heart-wrenching picture and an emotional story of a nine-year-old rape victim being carried by her father 4 km daily for the minor’s treatment.
This story has made an impact and the students of ‘Senior Study II’ in Amritsar have made a noble gesture of helping the family. The school students have been successful in collecting Rs 35,000 and would be sending this amount to the family of the victim.
The students, who were actively involved in collecting the money, said on Teachers’ Day eve, their principal Vijay Mehra informed them about this incident. “He announced in the morning assembly that students of the school should not spend money buying flowers, cards and gifts for their teachers. Instead, he asked us to go through the article and help the poor girl. We all started collecting money for this cause. This tragedy, which fell on the girl and her family, moved us to such an extent that we made a team of volunteers who stepped out of our homes and collected money from our respective neighborhood,” shared Diya Vij, a Class 7 student of the school.
Meanwhile, Kanav and Manav, both students of the school, said, “In our families we have been taught that girls should be respected and thus we feel that if our judicial system is unable to give justice to the rape victims, at least we as youngsters should not be a mute spectator to this heinous crime. We thank HT that they took an initiative to help the family and we got a chance to contribute for the ailing child.”
