Schoolgirl accuses govt teacher of sexual harassment in Ludhiana

Accused on earned leave for the past 24 days.

An inquiry team led by deputy district education officer Charanjit Singh on Tuesday recorded the statements of principal, students and staff of Government Senior Secondary School, Mundian Kalan, after a 14-year-old girl alleged sexual harassment by an English teacher at the school. The girl filed the complaint on May 31.

The team recorded the statements of all the staff members, including school principal Gurcharan Singh, teachers and non-teaching staff.

The inquiry process started at 10am and continued till the evening. School principal Gurcharan Singh said, “A day before the summer vacation ie on May 31, the girl and her parents had approached alleging bad touch by the English teacher. I immediately informed the district education office (DEO) and narrated the entire matter, following which deputy DEO Charanjit Singh was directed to inquire the case.”

The girl’s parents are demanding strict action against the teacher and has also sought his transfer, the principal added.

The team didn’t record the statement of the accused, Amandeep Singh, as he has availed earned leave for the past 24 days.

The girl’s parent had also approached Mundian Kalan police. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Mundian Kalan police station, Jaswinder Singh, said “The girl’s parents have submitted a complaint today (Tuesday). We will record the statement of the victim’s father before lodging a first information report so that accused can be charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.”
