Scooter rams into MC water tanker, girl killed, sisters injured

A 17-year-old girl died when the scooter she was riding along with her two younger sisters rammed into a municipal corporation water tanker near the Guru Nanakpura railway crossing in the city on Monday afternoon.

A 17-year-old girl died when the scooter she was riding along with her two younger sisters rammed into a municipal corporation water tanker near the Guru Nanakpura railway crossing in the city on Monday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Navpreet Kaur, a resident of Kot Ram Dass Mohalla near Chuggiti in the city. She was a student of Class 12 at Doaba Khalsa Model Senior Secondary School, Ladowali road.

Her sisters Harmanpreet Kaur (12), a Class 6 student and Ritika (5), an LKG student, have sustained serious injuries in the accident.

As per information, Navpreet was driving the scooter and her sisters were riding pillion on a Hero Maestro (PB07-AR-3874) scooter. The victims were coming back from their school.

Reports said Navpreet lost control over the speeding vehicle and it rammed into the water tanker where MC employees were watering plants around 3pm.

The scooter got dragged under the tanker, and an iron pipe got inserted into Navpreet’s chest.

Navpreet succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. In the late evening, Ritika was shifted to the SGL Hospital while Harmanpreet was undergoing treatment at PIMS only.

No case was registered till filing of the report.
