The Friday's road tragedy that took 14 young lives has posed a serious reminder for the traffic police authorities here that much is needed to be done to save the lives, especially when the toll figures have been alarmingly high with at least 3 deaths every day in the Bathinda zone.
This year, till date, Bathinda, Fazilka remained most vulnerable districts in the south Punjab as these marked the road accident toll up to 141 and 133 respectively, as per official figures. The tentative toll in Ferozepur also crossed 100.
In Bathinda district, a high of 19 people died in accident last month alone, the highest ever deaths in a month in the region.
The killer stretches have been Ferozepur-Fazilka, which is even a tolled state highway where the Friday's mishap took place, Fazilka-Abohar, Malout-Abohar and Bathinda-Muktsar.
