Sexual abuse complainant against hockey skipper Sardar to meet cops

The British-Indian woman who has accused Indian hockey skipper Sardar Singh of sexual exploitation would appear before the police in Ludhiana to formally record her statement on Wednesday, it is learnt. Sardar had last week appeared before the special investigation team (SIT) and, pleading innocence, had claimed that he was neither engaged to the woman nor had he ever established physical relations with her.

She is likely to meet the SIT officials around 11am, sources said, adding that she would “submit additional evidence”.

Earlier, in his statement to the SIT headed by additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-4) Satvir Singh Atwal, Sardar accused the woman of framing him. The hockey star admitted that they had met in 2012 during the London Olympics, but added that their relationship had been confined to friendship. He said the woman had no documentary proof to back her claim of their engagement.

The complainant was since last week expected to appear before the SIT as the police had information that she had returned from the UK.

As the woman has alleged that Sardar sexually assaulted her in his maternal house at Bhaini Sahib village, the police have also decided to call his parents and maternal relatives to join the investigation.
