A Chennai-based company has been handed the contract of installing these garbage bins, and the free of cost installation demo will last for 15 days. At this stage, two sets of these bins are being installed at Kallu Da Akhara and Majitha Road localities.

The MC health officer Dr Ajay Kanwar Singh said this is being done on an experimental basis. He said one garbage bin is for dry waste and other is for wet material. The installation will be completed within a day or two.

“Each bin will have two containers with the capacity to hold 1,800kg of waste. Such arrangements are being made to lift garbage and other waste material effectively. It would ensure cleanliness,” said Dr Singh.

These smart bins will be placed at 32 secondary collection centres in the walled city. Mobile dustbins will also have two such containers for lifting waste. After collection, the waste will be carried to Bhagtanwala dump, said MC authorities.
