Trade Union Congress members discuss pending demands at meet

The members of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) conducted a state-level meeting at Moga on Thursday in which they had discussed their demands which are pending with the state transport-department.

Issues such as Kilometer Scheme and regularisation of outsourcing contractual employees were discussed. Under the scheme, nearly 108 private buses were to be introduced in which 10 were supposed to ply on Ludhiana route.

Jagdeep Singh, general secretary of the union, said: “Kilometer Scheme was introduced only to satisfy the ulterior motives of the politicians and influential lot who own most of these buses.”

Last week, six buses were stopped in Ludhiana when Punjab Roadways employees boy cotted the scheme.

The buses have begun plying again on Friday by availing outsourcing services of contractual employees.

Unable to get loan to introduce new buses, Punjab Roadways resorted to unite with Punbus, a private company, so that loan can be sanctioned in a hassle-free manner but with the introduction of the Kilometer Scheme, drivers, conductors and technicians had to bear the brunt.

The members of the union also expressed their anger over the issue of not getting dearness allowance on time.
