Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon said the deceased, who died on the spot, had been identified as Nishant Kumar, 26, from Begusarai district of Bihar.

Those injured were three trainee IAS officers and the car driver. “The injured have been identified as Sashi Ranjan, Ajit Kumar, both from Bihar, and Harsh Kumar from Kanpur, and driver Raj Kumar from Jalandhar,” Dhillon said.

He said that after attending a meeting in Jalandhar, the trainee IAS officers were on their way to Takhtupura village of Moga district in an Innova when the accident took place around 4am.
The injured were taken to the Moga civil hospital from where Ajit Kumar was referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.

“We are investigating the case,” the SSP said. A case has been registered at the Ajitwal police station under Section 174 of the CrPC on behalf of the statement of IAS officer Sashi Ranjan, a resident of Basant Vihar, Ranchi (Bihar).

“After conducting the post-mortem, Nishant’s body was handed over to his friends,” the SSP added.
