Almost all political leaders in Ludhiana these days are busy travelling.
The reason: the Moga assembly byelection coming up on Saturday. The major leaders of the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) travel to Moga around 8am and are back by 9pm. It's a battle of prestige, so all hands from all over the state are on deck.
Whenever Ludhiana leaders are called up for any information, they are found travelling. This includes Pawan Dewan, Gurmail Pahelwan, Malkit Singh Dakha, Surinder Dabar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, and KK Bawa of the Congress.
"I am too busy these days to look into anything else," said district Congress president (urban) Pawan Dewan.
"We travel from morning to evening and campaign everyday. The schedule is hectic but the election is must-win,” he added.
Dewan has charge of three polling booths of Moga for his party. Several other leaders from Ludhiana have similar assignments. Ludhiana's member of parliament, Manish Tewari, who is also union minister for information and broadcasting, also campaigned in Moga.
KK Bawa organises rallies in Moga everyday and district BJP president Parveen Bansal keeps almost the same schedule. His party has put him in charge of 10 zones.
The SAD's contingent of leaders in the campaign includes public works department minister Sharanjit Dhillon, legislators Manpreet Singh Ayali and Darshan Singh Shivalik, and senior leader Harish Dhanda. Youth Akali leaders from Ludhiana are also active in the campaign.
