The police have booked two doctors and a nursing staff for culpable homicide not amounting to murder for causing the death of Kulwinder Kaur (60), sister of SAD MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta, by allegedly administering her the wrong medicine at Max Super Speciality Hospital here.
Based on a complaint by Ajaib Singh, the victim's husband, police have booked senior doctor Rajesh Vashisht, a junior doctor and a nurse under Section 304 and 34 of the IPC. None of the accused has been arrested yet.
Ajaib Singh alleged the victim was admitted to the hospital on September 14 with diarrhoea but a junior doctor, on Vashisht's prescription, administered a wrong injection to her due to which her condition worsened and she got comatose. "She was treated at the hospital for one month but died on Monday night," he complained. The victim was employed as a principal in a government school at Govindpura near here.
The MLA too alleged his sister was administered the wrong injection by the hospital staff as the doctor prescribed the medicine to staff over phone on Sunday when she was brought to the hospital.
A spokesperson of Max Healthcare that manages the hospital said the patient was a case of stage four breast cancer with metastasis (spread of cancer) in her liver and bones.

{{/usCountry}}"In August 2014, she had taken Palliative Radiotherapy.On September 14, the patient was brought to the emergency ward of the hospital with diarrhoea and was advised symptomatic treatment. On the same day, she suffered a sudden cardio-respiratory arrest and was revived and put on ventilator support. Her condition was extremely critical right from the time of admission.
The family was continuously briefed about her line of treatment and her medical condition. She was under the treatment of a senior oncologist and was provided with the best medical treatment," said the spokesperson.
On the other hand, Bathinda district president of the Indian Medical Association, Shiv Dutt Gupta said that as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court and a letter from the office of the director general of police, Punjab, a case can be registered against a practicing doctor only after a proper inquiry by a board to be constituted for the purpose by the administration.
"I don't know if any such board was constituted by the administration," he said.
