Veteran actor Satish Kaul (59), who was the heartthrob of Punjabi cinema during the 1980s, has been struggling to arrange for funds to undergo treatment for his fractured hip bone and right leg.
He has been receiving treatment at a private hospital since July 8, following a fall in the bathroom. He is expected to undergo a surgery on Friday. “Nobody has come forward to help me. I am living only on the fellowship of 12,000 per month that was given by Punjabi University. I don’t have any money for my treatment”, Kaul said. Last year, HT reported on the actor’s financial struggles, following which Punjabi university granted him a scholarship for three years.
Meanwhile, a g roup of theatre artists, who met him on Thursday, demanded that the state government bear the expenses of the actor’s treatment. “We have been appealing to philanthropists to come forward to help him financially for his treatment”, said Pran Sabarwal, a veteran theatre artist.
Kaul, who once owned luxury cars and apartments in several regions, incurred financial losses due to family discords, following which he started small theatre institutes in Ludhiana and Patiala.
