Woman commits suicide over father’s ‘illicit affair’ in Tarn Taran

Ravinder Kaur of Maluwal Santan village, left a suicide note in which she alleged that she was upset over her father’s ‘illicit affair’

A 30-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at her maternal house at Goindwal Bypass in Tarn Taran on Thursday.

The woman, identified as Ravinder Kaur of Maluwal Santan village, left a suicide note in which she alleged that she was upset over her father’s ‘illicit affair’ with a woman.

Police have registered a case under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC against victim’s father Hardev Singh and his alleged paramour Jaswinder Kaur of Nanaksar locality in Tarn Taran

The deceased’s brother Bishan Singh said, “My sister was married and had been living happily with her husband and in-laws at Maluwal Santan village. She had come to our house on Wednesday. While sitting with our mother, she requested our father to end his illicit affair with Jaswinder Kaur. But our father didn’t give any assurance in this regard. After this, my sister consumed a poisonous substance and fell unconscious.”

She was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev super specialty hospital in Tarn Taran where she died on Thursday.

Assistant sub inspector (ASI) Sanjeevan Singh, who is investigating the case, said, “We have registered a case against the accused, who are on the run.”
