In the first six hours, 42% turnout was witnessed in highly-sensitive Pipra block. Hariharganj, another Maoist-affected area, witnessed 47% turnout, Chhattarpur 44% and Manatu 36% by 1pm.
Voters, however, turned up in fewer numbers to cast votes at two relocated booths till 2pm. The district administration had relocated two booths, number 77 and 78, at Goindee in Manatu block six km away at Taal due to safety reasons. These booths belonged to Chatra parliamentary seat in Palamu district.
Returning officer of Palamu, KN Jha, said, “We got information that voters of Goindee are not casting votes. However, steps were taken to persuade them.” The returning officer added voters were given government vehicles to reach the relocated booths at Taal.
