In her statement to the police, the woman said the suspect – 24-year-old Manoj Kumar – entered her residence in the wee hours of Wednesday, and after bolting the door from inside, sexually assaulted her. However, seizing a chance opportunity, she picked up a hammer and hit him repeatedly in the face. When the woman realised that Kumar was dead, she locked the body inside and then went about her daily chores. She surrendered to the police only at 12 midnight.

Police have recovered the body as well as the murder weapon. The woman was taken for a medical check-up, and then sent to police custody for further interrogation.

Observing that both Kumar and the woman hailed from Amba Toli village in Khunti district, Hatia DSP Prashant Anand said: “The police was enquiring whether the girl and the boy were acquainted to each other. We are also awaiting the medical test report.”
