“Do not trust the BJP as its leaders only tell lies,” he said at an election rally in Jharkhand’s Panki amid applause by people who had come from far and wide to listen to the maverick leader.

Panki in Palamu district is headed for bypoll on May 16 after sitting legislator Videsh Singh of Congress died of heart attack on March 29 .

His son, Devendra Singh Bittu, is claiming the seat and is banking heavily on the sympathy wave sweeping the constituency. Lalu had come to seek votes for him.

In his inimitable style, the RJD chief said, “We have thrown the BJP out of power in Bihar. We will do it in Jharkhand too.”

He asked the gathering to vote in favour of Bittu as only a non-BJP government can do well to the people of Jharkhand.

“Law and order is very grim in Jharkhand. Everyone is feeling unsafe here. Nothing better can be expected from this state government. Authorities are highly insensitive. Murders have become order of the day but no one is reacting,” Lalu said.

He assured justice to the family. “I will speak to the DGP and ask what is he doing to end the reckless murders,” he said.
