With barely 17 days remaining for the polls in Ranchi, candidates have tightened their belts to make a mark. After the allotment of poll symbols on Saturday, independents and candidates from registered unrecognised political parties have also started campaigning from Monday.
A total of 28 candidates, including one woman, are in the poll fray for the Ranchi seat. Out of them, 11 independents and 11 candidates from registered parties are contesting the election with hope of winning the seat on based on their promises made.
Several ‘promise merchants’ are selling dreams of a transformed locality with uninterrupted water and electricity supply while quite a few others made women security, displacement and law and order situation improvement their main election agenda. Since the issue of corruption grabbed the eyes of nation in recent time, candidates are leaving no stone unturned to cash in on the issue.
Arshad Ayub, an independent candidate for Ranchi LS seat, said, “Women security is at stake in the state capital. Administration has turned its eye on the issue. My agenda is to make Ranchi safer for women.”
However, Bahujan Mukti Party (a registered party) candidate Ranjit Mahto in his promise list has kept ‘corruption free Ranchi’ on the top. “Corruption and exploitation of underprivileged are the major issues in the society. If I became the Ranchi MP, my priority will be to fight against them,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Interestingly, independents and candidates from other registered parties know the fact that their chances of winning are bleak due to presence of several political bigwigs like Subodh Kant Sahai (Congress), Ramtahal Chaudhary (BJP), Sudhesh Mahato (AJSU) and Bandhu Tirkey (TMC). Despite this, they are hopeful that their people-centric issues would help them win.
