Director Sujoy Ghosh has denied that his latest short film Ahalya has been inspired by any Roald Dahl story. In a tweet he mentioned how his film is a retelling of an age-old epic with a feminist twist.
Set in a contemporary time in Kolkata, the 14-minute Ahalya is an epic thriller where the fate of an apsara (celestial nymph), a mahirishi and rain god Indra is sealed by a curse.
"I'm amused by murmurings that my short film Ahalya is 'inspired' from a Roald Dahl story. I'm amused because anyone who reads, knows that Dahl is an author of children's books.
"My film, as is evident, is an age old myth, slightly adult in nature, adapted with a feminist twist. I am, however, flattered over the comparisons with Dahl's work - he is of course, one of the greatest children's authors of the 20th century," Ghosh tweeted on Friday.Ahalya features Soumitra Chatterjee and in lead roles.
