Who pulled the plug on Baahubali 2 in UAE? Should the makers or the film’s overseas distributor be blamed? It’s shocking to know that SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, which has emerged as the country’s biggest grosser with earnings over Rs 1200 crore and still counting, has been pulled out of cinemas in the gulf and the reason is silly. Despite its successful run in theatres in UAE, the film has been removed due to the long-standing financial dispute between the producer (Arka Media) and K Productions, the company which released the film in Tamil Nadu and some areas in overseas.
K Productions still owes nearly Rs 15 crore to Arka Media, and the latter stalled the release of the film in Tamil Nadu on the release day for the same reason. Apparently, the distributor was given an ultimatum of two weeks to settle the dues and since it hasn’t been cleared yet, the extension has not been granted to continue running Baahubali 2 in the gulf, and effective from Thursday the film across Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam languages has been taken out of cinemas.
The film’s Gulf distributor and audiences are paying the price for this disappointing move by the producers who, despite negotiations, were not ready to reach an amicable agreement. This has deeply upset the fans of the franchise and it shows the makers greed for money.
